Supply, Issuance, & Rewards
BST is an ERC-20 token deployed on Ethereum in 2018. Its whole supply was created then; no more BST can be minted. Oceanpoint's own token is POINT, which is planned and not yet issued (see POINT and the liquidity engine).
You earn BST on Oceanpoint in three ways:
- staking BST in the governance pool (you receive sBST),
- staking BST:ETH liquidity-provider tokens in the liquidity pool,
- staking tokenized real estate (BSPTs) in an asset pool.
BST rewards are added to the pools and held by each pool's smart contract until a participant withdraws, which delivers the BST to their address.
BST Rewards
At genesis in 2018, 40% of the 100M BST supply (40M BST) was set aside for liquidity mining: rewards for people who stake and provide liquidity.
Liquidity mining is a mechanism or process in which participants supply cryptocurrencies into liquidity pools, and are rewarded with fees and tokens based on their share.
Rewards come from BST emissions that are directed to the pools. How the emissions are split between the governance pool, the liquidity pool and the asset pools is set by governance and changes over time. Oceanpoint does not promise fixed reward amounts or fixed APYs; yields are variable.
Current pool yields, staked amounts and holder numbers are read live from the chain on the statistics page.
What BST rewards are not: BST and sBST holders do not receive a share of Oceanpoint's trading or listing fees. Each trade on the Oceanpoint marketplace carries a 1.5% fee: 1.0% goes to Oceanpoint and 0.5% to the Blocksquare infrastructure it licenses.
BST buybacks
When community members stake BSPTs in the Asset pool - Community, the rental income of those tokens goes to the DAO treasury instead of to the staker, who earns BST rewards in return.
That rental income funds BST buybacks: the DAO treasury buys BST on the open market and burns it, so real estate revenue reduces the BST in circulation.
Note that BST is a regular old school ERC-20 token deployed in 2018 and that the only mechanism to "burn" tokens is to send them to the Ethereum "dead" address 0x000000000000000000000000000000000000dead
Sending tokens to the above address does not reflect on circulating supply value, however, it does effectively lock out that amount from circulation as the address has no known corresponding private key.
