Governance pools

The governance pools are the main sBST pool and the marketplace pools, where sBST holders back new marketplace operators.

Rewards

Both pool types earn BST rewards. The allocation is set through governance and changes over time; see the live figures at /stats.

The governance pools category has two parts: the main governance pool, live since February 2022, and the marketplace pools, live since June 2024. This page gives an overview of how both work and how to take part.

By staking BST, Blocksquare's protocol token, in the main pool you receive sBST. sBST earns the pool's BST rewards and is what you vote with on governance-pool and protocol proposals on Snapshot. sBST does not govern Oceanpoint S.à r.l. and does not share Oceanpoint's trading or listing fees.

Pool mechanics

Main pool (sBST)

Connect your wallet to the Oceanpoint dApp at app.oceanpoint.fi and deposit BST into the main pool. You receive sBST, a tokenized share of the pool. As BST rewards are added to the pool, each sBST is worth more of the underlying BST.

After you deposit, a 48-hour lock disables withdrawals. This prevents front-running of reward distributions and encourages long-term participation. To exit, return your sBST to the pool and receive the underlying BST.

You can move sBST between your wallets. There are no deposit or withdrawal fees beyond Ethereum gas.

  • A 48-hour lock after depositing BST.
  • sBST can be moved between wallets.
  • No fees beyond Ethereum gas for depositing or withdrawing.
  • sBST is worth more BST as rewards are added to the pool.

Marketplace Pools

Marketplace pools let new marketplace operators (Certified Partners, CPs) present their plans to the BST community. Operators set out their business plan and KPIs. If the community supports the project, Blocksquare configures a marketplace pool campaign, and the operator deposits at least 500 sBST as collateral.

Community members can then pledge sBST to the projects they believe in. A pool earns BST rewards once it has been filled to 100,000 sBST, and these rewards go to the community members who pledged.

Lock periods secure commitment on both sides. When the pool is filled, community pledges are locked for the pool's lock period, which the operator sets between 90 and 365 days; the live pools use about six months. The operator's collateral is locked for twice that period.

  • Marketplace operators present their plans to the BST community, with business plans and KPIs.
  • If approved, the operator deposits between 500 and 99,000 sBST as collateral.
  • Community members pledge sBST to the pools they choose, up to a total of 100,000 sBST per pool.
  • Community pledges are locked for the pool's lock period (90 to 365 days); the operator's collateral is locked for twice as long.
  • If a campaign does not fill the pool, everyone can withdraw their sBST shortly after the campaign ends.

Summary

Marketplace pools, alongside the main governance pool, reward long-term participation and let sBST holders back new marketplace projects directly.
