Protocol governance

Who makes decisions about what happens with Oceanpoint?

Two different things are governed in two different ways:

  • The BST pools and protocol proposals (for example reward splits, pools and parameters) are governed by sBST holders. They vote on Oceanpoint Improvement Proposals (OIPs) on Snapshot.
  • Oceanpoint the company (Oceanpoint S.à r.l., currently registered as Blocksquare S.à r.l.) makes its own corporate decisions. BST and sBST do not govern the company or share its fees.

A six-member governance board of founders, advisors and community representatives executes governance decisions through a multisig wallet. The roadmap is toward fully on-chain governance.

Who governs the BST treasury?

The governance board holds the treasury in a multisig wallet (a Safe) with six signers. Any transaction needs four of the six to sign.

See Governance board for the current setup.

Can I propose new products or strategies to be added to Oceanpoint?

Proposals for the BST pools and the protocol are put to sBST holders on Snapshot. See The voting process for how proposals are made and voted on.

How do I vote?

All sBST tokens are eligible to vote. You get sBST by staking BST in the governance pool in the Oceanpoint dApp; one sBST is one vote. Voting on Snapshot is off-chain, so it costs no gas. You can learn more in The voting process.
